Work is set to complete on the 61,000 sq ft Stockport office scheme by December.

Developer Glenbrook secured £3.5m from the government’s Getting Building Fund to help expedite the project, which received planning permission last year. Glenbrook announced on 2nd September that it had appointed City Build as lead contractor for the project.

When complete, Stok will offer two large open floorplates of 13,300 sq ft and 15,500 sq ft on the first and second floors. On the ground floor will sit 7,000 sq ft of office spaces, which will open out onto Princes Street. Stok will also have 20,000 sq ft of space in the basement for leisure occupiers or additional offices as well.

“We have been busy behind the scenes with the strip out and demolition works and have done some remodelling to the atrium to provide natural light through the building, including the basement,” said Chris Lloyd, Glenbrook’s investment director.

“City Build are a superb local firm and we are confident that with the grant funding now in place we can make swift progress to deliver this super central office scheme for Stockport,” he added later.

Stok is located on the site of the old Marks & Spencers building on Princes Street in the Stockport town centre.

Its location is one of the reasons Cllr David Meller, cabinet member for economy and regeneration at Stockport Council, is excited about the scheme.

“STOK will bring more footfall into our town centre, diversify its offer further and again showcase the massive potential our borough has and is now realising,” Cllr Meller said. “The development will help us deliver our ‘Change Here’ ambition to make Stockport a better place to live, work, play and connect.

“The plans look fantastic and it’s testament to Glenbrook that they buy into the council’s bold vision to make our town centre fit the present and the immediate future as traditional retail becomes less of a presence – something obviously shown by them taking what was previously a well-loved Marks and Spencer and bringing a new vision for it,” he continued. “I can’t wait for STOK to open and contribute to what are exciting times for Stockport.”

Linberg is the delivery architect on Stok, with Incognito acting as the interior designer. The project team also includes Ridge on M&E and Abacus as cost consultant.

CBRE and Edwards & Co are agents for office scheme opportunities at Stok. Metis Real Estate is the agent in charge of leisure or retail enquiries.
