Alderley Edge School for Girls

Alderley Edge School for Girls

Alderley Edge, Cheshire

City Build was appointed to re-roof a three-storey teaching block with additional internal refurbishment at Alderley Edge School for Girls in Cheshire.

Our contract included removal of the existing mansard roof, guttering, membrane, leadwork and insulation. We then replaced this with VM Zinc Plus roofing with a VM structural clip fixing system and 90 thick Kingspan Kooltherm K107 grid insulation.

The works were undertaken during the school summer holiday. Whilst there were no children on site during the contract programme there were staff on site, and the school is near to a public highway, so our construction phase health and safety and management plan and risk assessment paid particular attention to hoarding and access issues.

In addition, the school has residential properties at its boundary, so we scheduled noisy works for when owners were likely to be at work, delivering them weekly newsletters highlighting the progress of the works.

Robust systems and checks were put in place for working at height and scaffolding erected in accordance with BS 5973:1981. Our site team were SMSTS trained, CSCS Gold Card holders, CISRS scaffolding inspectors, and trained in Safe Working at Height.
